Born on December 12, 1964 to Tannous and Marie, in Chelifa, Baalbeck in the Bekaa Valley pf Lebanon, Fr. Milad Yaghi was the fifth child to a family of 7. They include: Sister Claudette, Nadia, Elias, Bechara, George and Charbel.
Fr. Milad Joined the Maronite Lebanese Missionaries in 1977 at the young age of 13. After 10 years of schooling he was ordained a priest on July 9, 1988. During this time he received his education at the College de Apotre and The University of Kaslik. After his ordination he was sent to France to continue his education, and to be assistant pastor for a Parish in Metz. He received his Masters Degree in Catholic Theology from the University of Strasbourg in his two-year stay in France.
Upon the completion of his term in France, Fr. Milad was then assigned to come to the United States of America, which would be the beginning of the most important and difficult journeys that a young Fr. Milad would take. He arrived to San Antonio, Texas in November 1991. He was then assigned to celebrate mass for a mission here in Houston, Texas. He would commute from San Antonio to Houston to celebrate mass.
After several months he gathered a small parish together and moved to Houston in definitively to begin his mission to build a community in Houston, and then from there to fulfill the dream of building a church in Houston.
In essence, Fr. Milad took a "parish" of a couple families and made it into The Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Mission of a couple hundred families. In his 12 years as pastor of our church he has done the impossible. Regardless of the doubt and skepticism of many, he managed to accomplish the ultimate goal her in Houston.
Furthermore, with his charming and warm personality he has become not only our pastor, but also a member of our families. He came to this city at the young age of 27 and grew up with the trials and hardships he faced in the struggle to build a community in Houston.
Fr. Milad brought this parish from celebrating mass in a rented church, to the ground breaking of a new hall, the dedication and completion of the Hall, the ground breaking of the new church, and now finally the completion of a church!
Fr. Milad hard work will finally be shown and gratified with the dedication of Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite church on March 9, 2003.
